About the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation

For more than 40 years the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation has rallied communities, businesses and families to advance the health and well-being of our province’s children. Through fundraising, advocacy and partnership, we invest in life-saving equipment, pediatric research, specialized programs and family supports that make a tangible difference every day.

What We’re Looking For

This year we hope to welcome one or more new volunteer Directors at our September 2026 Annual General Meeting. To keep our leadership strong, responsive and representative, we are seeking candidates who bring both professional expertise and lived experience, especially in one or more of the following areas:

Priority Expertise & Backgrounds

  • Communications & PR / crisis management
  • Legal (charities, governance, healthcare, etc.)
  • Philanthropy, fundraising and/or community leadership
  • Medical / clinical pediatrics
  • Diversity, equity & inclusion practice
  • Executive level leadership

Priority Locations

Most meetings are and can be held virtually via Zoom, meaning geography is not a limiting factor for Board Members. We are particularly interested in qualified candidates who are from the following areas:

  • Rural Newfoundland
  • Central Newfoundland
  • Western Newfoundland
  • Labrador

It is vital for our leadership to be representative of the community that the Janeway serves, therefore we encourage expressions of interest from individuals from equity-seeking groups, including Indigenous Peoples, Black and other racialized individuals, newcomers, persons with disabilities, 2SLGBTQQIA+ community members, women, low-income residents, those with mental or physical health barriers, and parents/caregivers of Janeway patients.

Role & Expectations

Board members serve as mission ambassadors, strategic advisors and fundraising champions. Key commitments include:

  • Time – four board meetings and one AGM, plus 4-8 committee meetings annually (for those who choose to join a committee).
  • Generosity – help engage the community and/or your personal networks in an effort cultivate new potential donors.
  • Governance – steward strategy, finances, risk and ethical fundraising practices.
  • Advocacy – share your expertise, networks and voice to advance children’s health.
  • Confidentiality and Accountability – uphold the Foundation’s by-laws and policies.

Directors are elected for a two-year term and receive an orientation and ongoing support. Directors are eligible for re-appointment up to two additional terms.

The Nomination Timeline

  1. Call for Expressions of Interest Opens – Open now, concludes June 30th, 2026
  2. Contacting those selected for a meeting – July–August
  3. Board review of recommended volunteers – August
  4. Election at AGM – September (date TBA)

  2. A brief Statement of Interest (max 500 words). This should include why you wish to serve on the Janeway Foundation Board and how your skills, experience and/or lived perspective will advance our mission.

We are honoured that so many spectacular community members wish to volunteer with the Janeway Foundation at all levels. Each year, considering volunteer turnover and strategic plan priorities, we find ourselves looking for different skillsets and attributes in our volunteers. So, if there isn’t a specific opportunity for you now, there may be in the future or with a committee. We will retain all expressions of interest and reach out where and when opportunities exist. All potential candidates for 2026 board positions will be contacted by September 2026.
