CYMH 2021 Fundraising Campaign Press Release_Final

St. John’s, NL – Today the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation held its annual general meeting, virtually. Martin Sullivan, Chair, Janeway Foundation’s Board of Directors, and Rebecca Dutton, President and CEO, Janeway Foundation, reflected on the fiscal year ended March 31, 2021, and celebrated the impact donors’ support has had on children’s health this past year.

“This past year was a year like no other – but we saw the support for the Janeway continue, all to provide the best possible care for children’s health in Newfoundland and Labrador,” stated Martin Sullivan.

This past year fundraising was focused on programs like healthcare provider continuing education, pediatric research, and the purchase of vital equipment, such as:

  • A CT scanner
  • A mobile ultrasound unit
  • Transport incubators
  • Fetal monitors
  • An advanced birthing simulator
  • Adaptive bikes

“Thank you to the incredible donors who give so generously. Despite the challenges, corporate and community groups, retailers, schools, and individuals came together and raised a remarkable amount of money to support sick and injured children,” said Rebecca Dutton. “Thank you to each of the Janeway Foundation volunteers from across the province, in particular our Board members, who have made a significant commitment to help the Janeway enhance the care provided to the children of this province.”

2021-22’s Board of Directors was announced:

Martin Sullivan, Chair
Glenn Stanford, Secretary
Krista Ryan, Treasurer
Chris King
Charlene Johnson
Karen Winsor
CJ Nolan

New board members, Clare Stewart Brown and Gill Whelan, were welcomed.

Also speaking at the meeting were Quinn Schmiedendorf, Janeway Patient and Champion Child, Rita Pennell, a 27-year volunteer fundraiser with the Janeway Foundation, and David Diamond, President and CEO, Eastern Health.

“We know that 2020 was a tough year for healthcare, which makes the Foundation’s accomplishments for 2020-21 that much more significant,” said David Diamond. “You achieved your target – to raise $3 million dollars for a new CT scanner. This scanner will change the lives of our patients, and our practitioners. It’s an invaluable tool and we are so thankful for this gift.”

Operating Engineers, Local 904 gives $1,000,000 donation to the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation
Funds will Support a Central Monitoring System

St. John’s, NL – The Janeway Foundation announced today the Operating Engineers, Local 904 is committing to a donation of $1,000,000 to support children’s health care in Newfoundland and Labrador. This gift will fund the purchase and implementation of a Central Monitoring System at the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre, the first of its kind in Newfoundland and Labrador.

“This is an unprecedented gift for the Foundation and it will have a tremendous impact on the care provided at the Janeway. We are overwhelmed by this generosity,” said Martin Sullivan, Chair, Janeway Foundation Board of Directors. “Continuous fetal monitoring is used primarily for pregnancies with risk of adverse outcome. A Central Monitoring System allows both physicians and nurses to see what is happening in real time at the main desk, facilitating a multidisciplinary approach to care.”

“I thank the Janeway Foundation and its donors for another generous donation that will enhance the care we provide to our patients within the women and children’s health program,” said David Diamond, President and CEO of Eastern Health. “This Central Monitoring System is a state-of-the-art tool to aid in the delivery of consistent and quality care.”

“With approximately 2,200 members in Newfoundland and Labrador, we know how important the Janeway is to our members and their families who live throughout the province. Many of us have been touched by the Janeway in one way or another. On behalf of our members, we have chosen to support the Janeway and invest in the future of our children’s health care,” said Terrence Hickey, Business Manager, Operating Engineers, Local 904.

The Operating Engineers, Local 904 is a long-time supporter of the Janeway Foundation. This new gift is their largest donation to the Foundation to date.
