Becoming a grandparent has a way of widening your perspective. You see not only the wonder of a newborn, but also the journey ahead: the milestones, the challenges, the need for care, compassion, and expertise at every step. It brings into sharp focus something we see every day through our work – care is not one-size-fits-all. It comes in many forms, at many moments, and it matters deeply at every stage
At the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre, we are privileged to be part of those moments for children and families across our province. From the very first breaths of a newborn to the complex needs of growing children and youth, the care provided within these walls is as diverse as the patients we serve. It is clinical excellence, yes—but also kindness, reassurance, innovation, and hope.
As a new grandparent, I feel an even deeper gratitude for the extraordinary people who make this care possible. Our health-care teams, our staff, and our supporters all play a role in ensuring that children receive the very best care when they need it most. And behind all of this stands a remarkable community, one that consistently shows up with generosity, compassion, and belief in what we do.
The Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation exists because of that community. Every donation, every act of support helps ensure that care continues to evolve, to reach further, and to meet children wherever they are on their journey.
This season of new beginnings has reminded me that while life may be measured in stages, care must be constant. It must grow, adapt, and surround families when they need it most.
From my family to yours, thank you for being part of this shared commitment. Together, we are helping to create healthier futures for the smallest among us and for all the stages yet to come.
