St. John’s, NL –
The Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation’s (JCHF) Board of Directors, led by Martin Sullivan, Board Chair, today announced that Lynn Sparkes, the Foundation’s President and CEO, is retiring effective June 11, 2021.

In 2002, as Manager Corporate Giving, Lynn began her journey with the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation, one of the largest fundraising organizations in Newfoundland and Labrador.  Since 2005, Lynn has served as President and CEO, playing a vital role in the growth, development and success of the organization leading to improvements and significant milestones within both the Foundation and the Janeway Children’s Health & Rehabilitation Centre — 19 years, helping to ensure that our children receive the excellence in health care that they deserve.

“I have seen many changes and advancements made in child health care – from life-saving equipment to the latest findings in pediatric research,” said Lynn.  “I am honored to have played a role in this ever-changing landscape of providing the best care for our children.”

During her tenure, Lynn was the driving force behind funding for the construction of the Janeway Pediatric Research Unit and the Special Care Unit, as well as the creation of the Staff Education Fund. Under her leadership, the Foundation received a $1.75 million gift to upgrade surgical suites into integrated operating rooms and a $1 million gift to purchase and install a central fetal monitoring system and associated perinatal charting system.  These systems, the first of their kind in Newfoundland and Labrador, are used in labour, delivery and post-delivery, with expansion to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

2020 was an unprecedented year, worldwide.  Under Lynn’s guidance, and during a pandemic, the Foundation reached their $3 million goal to purchase a new CT Scan.

“Lynn Sparkes has been a leading champion of improving children’s health care in Newfoundland and Labrador. We want to thank Lynn for her 19 years of dedicated service and wish her all the best in her retirement and next venture,” said Martin Sullivan, Board Chair.

“Our mission has not changed—and won’t change with the coming leadership transition,” continued Mr. Sullivan.  “The Foundation is on a strong trajectory and we will continue to inspire our supporters and donors to invest in the Janeway Hospital, advancing pediatric care in our province.”
