This is an opportunity to spend your summer using your skills to help make sick and injured kids in Newfoundland and Labrador better.

The Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre is Newfoundland and Labrador’s only children’s hospital. Each day the Janeway’s 85 doctors, and 800 nurses, technicians, therapists, and support staff provide excellent specialized health care in a compassionate, supportive environment to children from infancy to 18 years of age.

The Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation supports this vital work. We focus on raising funds to support the children and families serviced by the hospital by purchasing modern medical equipment, funding pediatric research for the province and providing funding for training for medical staff.  We also fund other programs and equipment focused on pediatric healthcare at hospitals across the province. We are a provincial organization and have the health of the children of the province in mind every day. 

Position Summary

The Marketing & Communications Intern will bring new life to how the Janeway Foundation shares our vital messages with the community. Working closely with the Manager of Communications & Community Events, and the small and nimble team, our intern will gain relevant experience in a busy and fulfilling charitable environment. This role is intended to help us focus more on how we communicate with donors, volunteers and the community at large and will help shape our strategies moving forward.

Our intern will:

  • Support the creation of an organizational communications plan and assist with traditional and social media related initiatives.
  • Help plan and prepare for events.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of fundraising and stewardship campaigns.
  • Assist in preparing the organization’s annual report and newsletter.
  • Conduct market research and surveys on donor and volunteer preferences.
  • Work with the team to devise new communications and marketing strategies for existing initiatives to increase engagement.
  • Liaise with fundraising volunteers.
  • Provide administrative support to ensure fundraising success.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in a business program (major or minor), who has a keen interest in marketing and/or communications. Preference may go to candidates who have completed coursework in marketing, social media, consumer behavior, and communications, or who have experience in those areas.

Eligibility: This position is funded in part by Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) and must comply with all requirements set out by Service Canada for CSJ-funded employment. The employee must be:

  • up to or 30 years of age (at the start of employment);
  • a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and
  • legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

    *International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

Working Conditions

Physical Effort:             Carrying materials related to events etc., may be required. Sitting for long periods of time is expected.

Sensory Attention:         Long periods of intense concentration will be expected from time to time. Special events can be very busy with multiple elements, and the environments can change, depending on the event.

Dress/Demeanor           Business casual attire and a professional demeanor are expected.
